The Australian Anti-AUKUS Coalition (AAAC) is campaigning for an Australia that is committed to peace, justice and a nuclear-free world. In Australia, this starts with acknowledgement of invasion, and solidarity with First peopleโs struggle for justice and sovereignty. The national coalition is calling for a united front against AUKUS, nuclear submarines, a broad movement for peace and a nuclear-free Australia. Read more…

Re-think Defence โ Assert independence!
Australia has unwisely signed two agreements that make us a military appendage of the USA: AUKUS, first signed in 2021 and superseded in 2024 by AUKUS 2.0 and the Force Posture Agreement signed in 2014.
AUKUS – referred to as a security and technology-sharing pact – is indirectly a military agreement with the USA and the UK which:
- Has never been subjected to public or parliamentary scrutiny
- Guarantees us nothing (except huge costs)
- ร Commits Australia to buying and building nuclear-powered submarines
- Puts Australia in lockstep with an erratic USA and its growing hostility to China
- Commits us to even deeper dependency on US foreign and defence policy
- Ties Australia further into the US military-industrial complex
- Commits us to permanent storage of radioactive waste from nuclear powered submarines
- AUKUS and associated commitments are projected to cost Australia $375 billion (plus future cost blowouts). This includes shoring up both the US ship building capacity and Rolls Royceโs manufacturing of SSN-AUKUS nuclear reactors in the UK: Both to the non- refundable tune (even if the submarines never eventuate) of approximately AU$5 billion each.
The Force Posture Agreement (FPA)
- Gives the USA a heavy military footprint on Australia facilitating the USA using Australia as an operational base for its war games and forward posturing
- Enables the USA to operate nuclear-capable bombers and warships from Australia, without declaring if they are actually nuclear armed
- Inevitably makes us a party to regional US military actions
- Australia should prioritise peace, an independent foreign and defence policy and good diplomatic relations in our region โ not the endless and dangerous cycle of militarisation.
